How Did I Not Know This?

For those of you that don't know, I still nanny during the day. I was in the kitchen with my MB (Mom Boss, nanny lingo) and she was rushing to make some breakfast before heading out the door to run errands. She was frantically searching through the pantry looking for her packets of instant-oats, only to find she was out. She did however, have a full container of old fashioned oats as I pointed out.
I asked her why she didn't just use those to make her oatmeal, and she responded, "oh that'll take too long won't it? I don't know how to make oatmeal like that. I'll just have to grab something on my way there."
Ya'll. I was shocked! And not to say that I was judging her at all, but it made me think about how many others out there have ingredients for simple things like oatmeal in their pantry and had never learned how to make it!
Born at the very front end of the 90's, I too indulged in my share of Instant Oats, and Dinosaur Egg oatmeal as a child and young teen. But, I was lucky enough to have a grandmother and mom would loved to cook and bake, and showed me a thing or two in the kitchen.
We fall victim to the "quick and easy" marketing so easily that sometimes we forget we have everything we need to do it ourselves, and for CHEAPER! I'm all about saving some more MULAH, ya feel me? Especially with something you can so easily (and deliciously!) make at home yourself.
So, I had her gather a few ingredients from the fridge and pantry, and I showed her how to make her own "Quick Oats" in under 5 minutes! And I'm going to share this recipe with you as well! So anytime you're visiting friends or family and want to show off your snazzy homemade oatmeal, you can catch a few "oooohs and ahhhhhs" with your new-found talent!
